SECRET CINEMA MARRIAGE PROPOSAL

Published on 21st October '15

When James came to us for help with his proposal to Lianne, the idea was so romantic we couldn't wait to help him! James had plenty of creative ideas in mind but he wasn't quite sure how to pull them off. That's where we came in!

We found The Asylum, a beautiful old chapel in the middle of Peckham. Although derelict, it is absolutely gorgeous and made the perfect setting for this proposal. The couple loves going to Secret Cinemas, so we used hundreds of candles, strung up fairy lights around the walls, and placed lots of lovely cushions on the floor to turn the venue into a stunning viewing area for Lianne to be surprised by when she entered.

James told Lianne and her friends that they were going to a Secret Cinema event and that it would be a Hollywood Glam theme so they needed to dress up. He also told them that he needed to work late so he would meet them there when in reality, he was coming to see us so he could rehearse!

We got 15 other 'guests', to dress up in glamorous clothing and wait outside the entrance of the venue so that when Lianne arrived she wouldn't get suspicious. When they got to the front of the queue, our proposal planner, Daisy, told the group that in order to get the full experience they would have to go into the cinema one at a time, starting with Lianne. As she entered the spectacular room she was shocked to see an iPad in the middle of the floor, with a button that she was told to press. As she did, a projection lit up the wall. It played a video that had been put together with clips of her favourite Disney films and famous Hollywood love scenes, integrated with clips of James himself, in true Hollywood style!

Suddenly, the film stopped playing and Desiree's, ''Kissing you,' from Romeo and Juliet came on. Two dancers came out from a door in the corner of the room and performed a truly dramatic piece. By this point Lianne had caught on to what James had planned and was crying with happiness. That's when the dancers parted and revealed James who walked over, took Lianne by the hand and they danced to the Viennese Waltz together.

As they finished he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. And of course, she said, 'Yes!'

The film then turned back on and they sat down on the cushions to watch together. When it had finished we came over and showered them with confetti from cannons to celebrate.

At the end of the proposal we popped open a delicious bottle of bubbly and for the rest of the evening everyone involved enjoyed celebrating together!

Being part of such a unique and special proposal was such an amazing experience for us, it was only topped when we got this message from James a few days later! I honestly do not know where to begin, so let me say this; Thank you. For all my bravado and over exuberance, I found that incredibly hard. I had wanted to do it for a very long time, but I had not known if I could do it in terms of both planning the idea but specifically actually going through with it. This would not have happened without you and I am sure you hear that a lot, but what you might not hear as often is that you are not just here to indulge people with over active imaginations/no imaginations, you actually act as the last line of defense and final word of reassurance before what is the hardest/and best question you will ever ask. I had my moments yesterday when I wanted to turn on my heel (all internalised) but I knew that I was in very safe hands. The whole thing was better than I could have hoped and felt like it was over in two minutes (whereas I am sure it felt like the full 20 minutes for you all having to hide behind pillars). It could not have gone any better and she has not stopped smiling since she got over that initial shock (I felt awful when she broke down!). I hope you enjoyed the event too.
